About

This is about the history of our families who immigrated from France, Quebec, Ireland and Hungary. Our ancestors were pioneers, farmers, bakers, coal miners, carpenters, wheelwrights, blacksmiths, and insurance agents. They were also baby makers. The families were quite large. Through marriage and adoption, we are now a true melting pot of cultures.

Sometime in the early 80's, I was given family genealogies typewritten in French and prepared before 1930 and later edited by hand. In it was the story of our fourth great grandfather, Laurent Soly, who claimed to be a descendant of King Ferdinand of Spain. This has always made me curious. Is this a legend? Did his wife really burn the deed to the baronial estate in France? After all of these years, I am still looking for answers to those questions and others about my ancestors.

Ida Josephine Morin
It is my assumption that these genealogies were prepared by Aunt Ida.  Ida was the daughter of Arthur Noel Morin and Azilda Desroches. She was a first generation American born in 1885 in Rhode Island. Ida was a public stenographer for many years before following her father into the insurance business. She typed, spoke French, and had access to the stories of her grandparents. I am grateful for the work she left behind.

I am writing this blog to help organize my research and to be able to share my findings. I have found that the French keep excellent genealogy records back to the time of Napoleon and so there is a large quantity of French history here. The Irish are my greatest challenge. The Hungarian records are also difficult but possible.
